Jake Paul, the 27-year-old influencer turned boxer, wants to fight Gervonta 'Tank' Davis. Paul made this announcement while getting ready for his match against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28, 2023.
Paul, known as "The Problem Child," told The Ariel Helwani Show about his plans to face Davis. He said, "That's a step ahead, but he has to do the rematch against Lamont Roach. He wants to bounce back, and then we'll talk again with Mr. Gervonta."
Many in the boxing world raised their eyebrows at Paul's statement. They think he's looking past Chavez Jr., who's seen as Paul's toughest opponent so far.
Chavez Jr., a Mexican boxer and son of a boxing legend, didn't like Paul's comments. He told FightHype TV:
"It's so stupid. You want to fight Gervonta? You want to fight Usyk? I don't know, after the 28th. Maybe he never fights again."
People are worried about the size difference between Paul and Davis. There's a 65-pound (30 kilogram) gap between them, which is six weight divisions apart.
Paul cleared things up in another chat with Helwani. He said it would be an exhibition fight, not a professional match. Paul explained:
"It would be an exhibition. No restrictions, we just couldn't get it sanctioned professionally."
Paul suggested he'd fight at 195 pounds and Davis would need to bulk up. The fight would last 10 rounds of three minutes each.
Paul's company, MVP, hinted at a possible November date for this dream match-up. Paul remains confident, saying, "That's a fight where the fans win, and it would be the biggest event of the year."
Right now, Paul needs to focus on his upcoming fight with Chavez Jr. on June 28. Many people think he should pay attention to this fight instead of talking about future opponents.
