Devin Haney wants to patch things up with Floyd Mayweather. The undefeated boxer's trying to mend fences after some past drama between them.
The story goes back to 2017 when Mayweather got ready to fight Conor McGregor. Haney, just a young boxer then, helped Mayweather as a sparring partner. But things got messy when Devin's dad, Bill Haney, started talking big.
Bill claimed Devin put Mayweather against the ropes during sparring. He even said this made Mayweather want to retire. To back it up, Bill shared a video of their sparring session.
Now, it looks like the Haneys want to smooth things over. Bill's been praising Mayweather lately, calling him the "GOAT" (Greatest of All Time) and "TBE" (The Best Ever). He posted on social media:
"[GOAT] talking... I never forgot anything that TBE taught me!"
He also captioned a video: "The key to boxing when you learn it from TBE."
In that video, Mayweather gives Haney some advice:
"The key is to take as few hits as possible, keep him away as much as possible. When he tries to catch me, I lock him up. You go back and do the same thing over and over again..."
But it's not all water under the bridge yet. Mayweather never signed Haney to his promotional company. And when Haney fought Ryan Garcia, Mayweather took Garcia's side.
Meanwhile, Haney's got his own stuff going on. There's talk about him fighting Teofimo Lopez, but that's up in the air. Lopez might be having second thoughts because of weight class issues.
Haney's record stands at 32 wins, no losses, and one no-decision. That no-decision? It was originally a loss to Ryan Garcia, but got changed when Garcia tested positive for banned substances.
So, Haney's reaching out to Mayweather, trying to fix their relationship. Will it work? We'll have to wait and see. But in the boxing world, where old champs and rising stars often bump heads, it's nice to see someone trying to make peace.
