Jai Opetaia wants to fight Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez to unify the cruiserweight titles. The Australian IBF champion has called out Ramirez, who holds the WBO and WBA belts.
Ramirez, with a record of 47-1, will defend his titles against Yuniel Dorticos (27-2) on June 28. The fight will be part of the card featuring Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Opetaia, undefeated in 27 fights, believes he's the best option for Ramirez. He told The Ring:
"I feel like I'm the cruiserweight that generates the most money with Ramirez, the biggest payday fight, but it's a risk for him. I honestly think that if he wants to call himself the best cruiserweight in the world, he has to beat me first and until he does he won't be."
The Australian champ wants to prove he's the best in the division. He's looking for unification fights and believes winning will bring financial rewards.
Opetaia understands the appeal of potential big-money fights against Jake Paul. He said:
"I don't know what he wants to do or what he's trying to do, he's looking for money, you can't blame him if he wants to fight Jake Paul for a huge sum of money. Who would turn that down? I'd beat up Jake Paul for a couple of million too."
Jake Paul will face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a 10-round bout at 200 pounds on the same card as Ramirez vs Dorticos. The cruiserweight division, with a limit of 200 pounds, currently has three major titles held by Ramirez (WBO and WBA) and Opetaia (IBF).
