Jaime Munguia got some bad news after his recent fight. The Mexican boxer tested positive for testosterone metabolites in a VADA test. This happened right after he beat Bruno Surace on May 3 in Saudi Arabia.
VADA, which stands for Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, found the banned substance in Munguia's sample. They took the test just a day after his fight with Surace. This is a big deal in Mexican boxing.
Munguia didn't stay quiet about it. He went on Instagram and shared a video to tell his side of the story. He said he was surprised by the test results. He feels calm and sure about how he prepared for the fight.
"I am a clean athlete, the truth is I am not afraid of anything, I know that I have done things and I am willing to do all the necessary tests to prove that I am a clean athlete."
The boxer from Tijuana is now waiting for the results of his B sample. He won't say anything else until that process is done. Boxing Scene reports that if the B sample also comes back positive, Munguia could face some tough consequences. His win over Surace might be taken away. He could also get suspended or fined.
This was Munguia's first fight working with new trainers Eddy Reynoso and Canelo Alvarez. It's not clear how this will affect their collaboration.
VADA always tests two samples when they check for banned substances. They only look at the B sample if an athlete asks for it after the A sample comes back positive. Right now, everyone's waiting to see what happens next with Munguia's case.
