Gervonta Davis, the unbeaten boxer from Baltimore, has set his sights on a dream fight. The 30-year-old powerhouse wants to face off against retired champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Davis, known as 'Tank', shared his dream matchup during a recent chat on A Safe Place Podcast. When asked about his ideal opponent, Davis didn't hesitate.
"Me vs. Floyd [Mayweather]."
The young champ has built an impressive career so far. He's racked up 31 fights without a loss and grabbed world titles in three different weight classes. Right now, he's the WBA world welterweight champ.
Davis's last fight ended in a split decision draw against Lamont Roach Jr on March 1. The close result left fans wanting more. A rematch is in the works for August, though it's not officially announced yet.
There's also talk of a potential bout with Jake Paul before the year's out. Negotiations are ongoing for that one.
Davis's dream fight with Mayweather is an interesting twist. The two have a history. Mayweather used to promote Davis early in his pro career. But that partnership ended in 2022 due to money issues and personal disagreements.
These days, Davis works with Al Haymon, a well-respected advisor in the boxing world. Haymon has worked with many top fighters, including Mayweather himself.
While a fight between Davis and the retired Mayweather isn't likely to happen, it shows the young champ's ambition. He's aiming for the top, wanting to test himself against one of boxing's all-time greats.
For now, Davis will focus on his upcoming rematch and potential fight with Jake Paul. But he's made it clear - if he could pick any opponent, past or present, it'd be Floyd Mayweather Jr.
