The fight had been in the works for almost three years. It got canceled in October 2022 when Benn tested positive for banned substances. When it finally happened, Benn started strong, but Eubank Jr took over in the later rounds, using his size advantage to win by unanimous decision.
Eubank Sr watched the fight to support his son. After the match, he had to ride in an ambulance with Chris Jr, who was dehydrated. This experience left the father worried about his son's health.
On his YouTube channel "Call Chris Eubank," Eubank Sr explained why he's against a rematch:
"I was in the back of the ambulance with my son. My son was dehydrated. When you take liquid out of a man when he doesn't have it to take this is why rules are in place to safeguard the fights. And they're using this to harm him. They're going to try and draw him down to this weight."
He added:
"You think I'm going to take on board this idea of a rematch? You must be mad. My son doesn't need a rematch, 'cause he has something now that money can't buy."
Eubank Sr believes the weight cut is too dangerous for his son's health. He feels Chris Jr doesn't need to prove anything more against Benn.
While talks of a rematch float around, Benn might return to his natural weight class of 147lbs. He's looking to chase a world title fight, possibly against Mario Barrios.
The Eubank Jr vs Benn saga continues to unfold, with health concerns now at the forefront of discussions about any future encounters between these generational rivals.
