Ortiz, who's 27 and has a perfect 23-0 professional record, recently beat Israil Madrimov in a tough 12-round battle in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The judges gave him the win by unanimous decision after a competitive fight in February.
There's been talk about Ortiz possibly fighting Crawford, especially if 'Bud' decided to compete at 154 pounds again. But Ortiz has now put those rumors to rest in a chat with Boxing News.
"No, he's not coming back to 154, I spoke to him, this is my first time saying this on media. I spoke to him and he's not gonna come back to 154, he's gonna fight his last two fights and retire, and you know what I respect it because he's been undisputed at 140, at 147, get your money and get out I mean what else do you have to prove. I would to the same thing."
Crawford, a four-weight world champion and pound-for-pound star, has already made his mark in boxing. He's been undisputed champion at both light welterweight (140 lbs) and welterweight (147 lbs).
Ortiz's revelation suggests Crawford's next fight could be a big one. There's talk of a Las Vegas mega fight against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, the undisputed super-middleweight champion, in September. If that happens, we might see a rematch as Crawford's final bout before he calls it quits.
It looks like Crawford's got his eye on the exit. He'll aim to add more glory to his already impressive career with these last two fights before stepping away from the ring for good.
