Saul "Canelo" Alvarez beat William Scull in Saudi Arabia, but the Cuban boxer claims he lost "without getting hit." This unusual outcome has got people talking.
Canelo's win made him the undisputed champion in the super middleweight division for the second time. He's the only Mexican boxer to do this twice. It's a big deal, adding to his already impressive list of 63 wins and 13 belts across different weight classes.
After the fight, Scull wasn't happy. He went on Facebook and said:
"They beat me in a fight without hitting me. The truth is that it is a pity, right? That boxing falls into that... because this is boxing: to hit and not be hit."
Scull thinks the judges got it wrong. He believes his defensive style should've won him the fight.
But Canelo didn't see it that way. He told FightHub TV:
"I said to him: 'You know, you just came to survive, you can't win a fight like that, fighting like that,'"
Canelo added that this kind of fighting isn't good for boxing. He thinks boxers need to put on a show and really fight, not just try to make it to the end of the match.
This fight has started a debate about what makes a good boxing match. Some people think Scull's defensive style is smart, while others agree with Canelo that it makes for a boring fight.
Canelo feels he's done it all in boxing. He told TMZ:
"In boxing I have already achieved everything. I have fought against everyone... I have won many titles in different categories."
This fight and the debate that followed show that even at the top level of boxing, there's still room for disagreement about what makes a great fighter and a great fight.
