Anthony Joshua's Boxing Return Halted by Surprise Medical Issue: "I'll Be Back Stronger"

Joshua, now 36, traveled to Saudi Arabia to watch Canelo Alvarez take on William Scull for the undisputed super middleweight title. While there, he spoke with Claudia Trejos and shared news about his health.

"Whenever they want me to go back. I'm trying to get my physicality back. I actually had a little bit of surgery on my arm, my elbow. A little bit of surgery in May. I'm just kind of working on that. That kind of threw me back a bit. That will keep me out of the gym for about six to eight weeks and when I'm healed up, I'll be back."

This development complicates plans for a potential fight between Joshua and Tyson Fury. Boxing fans have long hoped to see these two British heavyweights face off in the ring. Such a match would be a major event in British boxing, likely capturing the attention of the entire United Kingdom.

In 2021, both fighters held heavyweight titles - Joshua with the WBA, IBF, and WBO belts, while Fury claimed the WBC championship. Despite efforts to arrange a bout, a deal never materialized.

The situation got more complex in January when Fury, known as the "Gipsy King," announced his retirement. However, Queensberry CEO and promoter Frank Warren hasn't given up hope for Fury's return.

"But it's never too late. Who knows if Tyson decides he's fed up with mowing the lawn, it could happen."

As Joshua works on his recovery, which could take six to eight weeks, the boxing world waits. Promoters remain hopeful that Fury might change his mind about retirement, potentially setting the stage for the long-awaited clash between these two heavyweight stars.

For now, fans will have to be patient. Joshua's focus is on healing and regaining his physical form, while Fury's future in the ring remains uncertain. The path to this dream match-up continues to be filled with twists and turns.
