Daniel Dubois will beat Oleksandr Usyk in their upcoming rematch, according to Dave Allen. The British heavyweight, who has sparred with both fighters, made this bold prediction ahead of the July 19 clash at Wembley Stadium.
Allen shared his thoughts in a recent YouTube video:
"I think Dubois is gonna beat him. I know a lot of people will fancy Usyk and rightfully so. As much as I like Dubois and think he's getting better and all the rest of it, I'd like to see Usyk win, I think he's a great fella and a great fighter, but I think Dubois will win."
This prediction carries weight due to Allen's firsthand experience with both fighters. He briefly retired after a tough sparring session with Usyk, highlighting the Ukrainian's skill and power.
Dubois, nicknamed "DDD," has been on a tear recently. He knocked out Anthony Joshua in the fifth round last September to defend his IBF strap. He's also notched wins against Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic.
The first fight between Dubois and Usyk in 2023 ended in controversy. Dubois put Usyk down with a shot that the referee ruled a low blow, but Dubois' team disagreed. Usyk went on to stop Dubois in the ninth round.
Usyk remains unbeaten as a pro. He's the former undisputed cruiserweight champion and current undisputed heavyweight king. His resume includes two wins each over Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
The July 19 rematch will have all four major world heavyweight titles on the line. It's a chance for Dubois to prove himself against one of boxing's elite, while Usyk looks to cement his legacy further.
Allen himself is gearing up for a big fight. He'll face Johnny Fisher on May 17 in a rematch of their December 2024 bout, which Fisher won via a controversial split decision.
