Ryan Garcia gets ready to face Rolando 'Rolly' Romero in a big boxing match. The fight will happen on May 2 at Times Square in New York. It's called 'Fatal Fury' and marks Garcia's comeback after being away from the ring for a year.
The event has some other exciting fights too. Devin Haney will fight Jose Ramirez in another main event. Teofimo Lopez and Arnold Barboza Jr. will also step into the ring that night.
Garcia, known as 'KingRy', seems more focused on a future fight with Devin Haney than on Romero. At a recent event in New York, Garcia made some bold statements.
"I am back with a vengeance. I'm not here to mess around on Friday night. I can't. I've got a huge fight coming up."
Garcia and Haney have been trading insults for a year. Garcia even threatened Haney's father, Bill:
"Yes, I'm willing to prove it. I can't wait! I'm also going to beat up his father."
When talking about Haney, Garcia said:
"That's who I want to beat up, but Devin can win again. I'm going to do the same thing I did last time. Maybe we can run it back in New York. Why not? Let him come back and do to him what I did to him last time."
Garcia's focus on Haney might cause problems for his upcoming fight with Romero. He said:
"I have to take it as seriously as when I fight Devin. So we're going to be 100% prepared. You just get what you get, but I still bring that speed and that power."
Garcia hasn't fought in a year. This break might affect his performance. He also seems to be underestimating Romero, who has a strong record of 16 wins and only 2 losses, with 13 knockouts.
The boxing world will watch closely to see if Garcia can back up his big talk against Romero, or if his focus on Haney will cost him in the ring.
