Chris Eubank Jr came in over the weight limit for his fight against Conor Benn at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The mishap will cost Eubank Jr a chunk of his purse.
Eubank Jr narrowly missed the 160lb weight limit at Friday's weigh-in. The fight will still go ahead on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Eubank Jr's wallet will be a bit lighter.
Former Eubank Jr opponent Billy Joe Saunders didn't hold back when asked about the situation. Saunders, who beat Eubank Jr by split decision back in November 2014, gave his thoughts to BoxNation.
"All the talk yesterday about what's pain and professionalism. I've never missed weight in my life. It's the first time he's missed weight so clearly it was a lot of pain and it shows that he's struggling.
Saunders went on to suggest that Eubank Jr's failure to make weight could give Benn a mental edge going into the fight.
He's tried to get down to that weight and psychologically that's got to be very good for Benn. He's tried his best and clearly it was just too much to cut. It's one of those things when you're struggling for weight you're struggling for weight and he's clearly struggling.
The former two-weight world champion didn't stop there. He called Eubank Jr's miss an embarrassment and questioned his mental strength.
I was always taught by Jimmy Tibbs It's an embarrassment if you don't make weight. To miss it how he's missed it, that's nothing. You should be going through enough pain barrier to hit that. Everything he said about his own psychological mind is clearly a load of rubbish. So he's not mentally strong at the moment.
Conor Benn took to social media to share his thoughts on the situation, but his exact words weren't specified.
The fight will go ahead as planned, but Eubank Jr will have to deal with the consequences of his weight miss, both financially and mentally.
