Julio César Chávez Jr. thinks Canelo Alvarez will beat William Scull on May 3 in Saudi Arabia. But he doesn't expect Canelo to knock Scull out.
Chávez Jr. shared his thoughts during a virtual press conference. He said:
"William Scull I don't know, I know he's a champion, he's not bad, but he's not a great boxer either. And Canelo is good, we know he is not going to beat anyone. So because of the two things I said, I think Scull could go to decision with Canelo."
Chávez Jr. believes Canelo isn't at his best right now. He also thinks Scull is working hard for his big chance. That's why he expects the fight to go all the way to the judges' scorecards.
"The combination of Canelo not being at 100 percent like in his best fights and Scull having this opportunity, I think it could go to decision,"Chávez Jr. added.
Canelo is in Riyadh now. He wants to beat his Cuban opponent and unify all the super middleweight world championships. Canelo already has the WBC, WBA, and WBO belts. Scull holds the IBF title.
Chávez Jr. has his own fight coming up. He'll face Jake Paul on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim. At 39 years old, Chávez Jr. is coming back to the ring after taking a break last June. His record stands at 54 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw.
Chávez Jr. wants to fight Paul to get back at him for beating Mike Tyson. He said, "I love him very much, and I'm the first guy who is going to fight Jake after he beat Mike Tyson."
