Rapper 50 Cent stepped up to defend his former friend Floyd Mayweather from bankruptcy rumors. The two have had their differences, but 50 Cent still calls Mayweather his "brother."
Mayweather, known as "Money," retired undefeated in 2017. He's since faced gossip about his finances, with some claiming he's gone broke due to bad real estate deals. 50 Cent isn't buying it.
"Damn, they're talking bad about Champ, even though we're arguing, he's still my brother," 50 Cent said.
The rapper and boxer used to be close. 50 Cent even went with Mayweather to prison in 2012 when he served time for domestic violence. But things changed. They fought over money, with rumors of a $2 million debt between them.
50 Cent explained why they drifted apart:
"We're drifting apart because I don't need him. He used to put up with people's codependency."
Mayweather's talked up his business success. He told Jimmy Fallon he owns "over 100 buildings or more" with "99% of my buildings are in New York City." 50 Cent laughed this off, saying it's not true.
Despite the jokes and arguments, 50 Cent won't let others spread rumors about Mayweather going broke. He's made it clear: they might fight, but they're still family.
Mayweather could always get back in the ring if he needs cash. Exhibition fights might be a way for the champ to sort out any money troubles and maybe even pay back that rumored $2 million to 50 Cent.
