Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. are getting close to making a fight happen. The two boxers might face off in the summer of 2025 at cruiserweight.
The Ring Magazine says Jake Paul wants to fight Chavez Jr. This match would be a big step for Paul after his win over Mike Tyson last November. Paul beat Tyson in an 8-round fight in Dallas, but some people weren't happy with how it turned out.
Paul's been busy in the ring. He's won 11 fights and lost just one, with 7 knockouts. He's fought guys like Michael Perry and Tommy Fury, and he's trying to make a name for himself in pro boxing.
Chavez Jr. has been around the block a few times. He's got 54 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw. He used to be the WBC middleweight champ back in 2011-2012. But his career's had some ups and downs, with long breaks and some trouble outside the ring.
Last year wasn't easy for Chavez Jr. He got arrested for having weapons he shouldn't have had. But he went to rehab in Los Angeles and came back to beat Uriah Hall in July 2024.
Chavez Jr. seems pretty keen on fighting Paul. He said:
"I would be interested in fighting a champion, but fighting Jake Paul, because of the fame and the media, would put me in a place to fight against others... It's not concrete, but let's see what happens."
He even called Paul out on social media:
"Jake Paul, you say you can fight anyone you want! But you won't fight someone who knows how to do it. It's time, Jake!"
This fight's got people talking. It's like two different worlds coming together – a boxer from a famous family going up against a guy who started out making videos online.
There was some talk about Paul maybe fighting Canelo Alvarez, but that didn't work out when Alvarez signed a deal with Riyadh Season. And unlike Paul's fight with Tyson, Netflix won't be showing this one.
If it happens, this fight could be one of the biggest things to watch next summer. People will want to see it because it's such an unusual match-up. It's sure to get a lot of attention and probably make a lot of money too.
