Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are getting ready for a big fight on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It's a renewal of their dads' old rivalry, but there's trouble brewing in the Eubank camp.
The whole thing kicked off when Eubank Jr slapped Benn with an egg at a press conference. He did it to make fun of Benn's excuse for failing a drug test back in October 2022. This stunt got Eubank Jr in hot water with the British Boxing Board of Control, who fined him £100,000.
But it's not just the board who's upset. Chris Eubank Sr isn't happy with his son's behavior either. Speaking to Seconds Out, the boxing legend didn't mince his words:
"Jr, you're smashing an egg against this guy's face. I didn't teach you that. Who taught you that? Did [your mother] teach you that? Who taught you that? That's disgraceful."
Eubank Sr went even further, refusing to be in his son's corner for the fight:
"I'm going to stand in your corner? You must be mad. I'd never be in your corner, you're a disgrace, you're smashing an egg in someone's face, then you're trying to justify that. There's nothing noble about that."
This isn't the first time the Eubanks have butted heads. Sr used to be in Jr's corner for his early fights, but they've grown apart over the years. Some people reckon Jr needed to step out of his dad's shadow.
The fight itself will be at 160 lbs, which is two divisions above where Benn usually fights. Eubank Jr's the favorite to win. He's got more experience and he's naturally bigger. But with all this drama going on, who knows how it'll affect him in the ring?
Only time will tell if this family feud will mess with Eubank Jr's head come fight night. One thing's for sure - there'll be no shortage of drama when these two step into the ring on April 26.
