Daniel Dubois, the IBF heavyweight champion, thinks Tyson Fury should hang up his gloves. The young boxer shared his thoughts after Oleksandr Usyk beat Fury for the second time in December.
Dubois, also known as DDD, has made quite a splash in the heavyweight division lately. He got elevated to full IBF champion after beating Filip Hrogivic in June 2024. Before that, he had a breakout win against Jarrell Miller in December 2023, pulling off a stoppage in the last seconds of the 10th round after taking some heavy hits.
But Dubois' most impressive show came when he faced Anthony Joshua in September. He knocked Joshua down in the first round and finished him off within five rounds. It's clear Dubois is making his mark in the heavyweight world.
Speaking about Fury, Dubois didn't mince words:
"He should retire in my opinion. He's done everything. But it's my time now, I want to be the next man."
Fury, known as "The Gypsy King," retired after losing to Usyk in December. Many fans hope he'll come back to face his long-time rival Joshua, but nothing's certain yet.
Dubois' path to the top hasn't been smooth sailing. He lost by knockout to Usyk in the summer of 2023, and recently had to pull out of a scheduled fight with Joseph Parker in February due to illness.
Now, as the IBF champ, Dubois has his sights set on bigger things. He wants another shot at Usyk for the undisputed title. But first, he's got to face Derek Chisora, the IBF's mandatory challenger.
The heavyweight division is heating up with rising stars like Dubois, champions like Usyk, and former champs like Fury and Joshua still in the mix. It's an exciting time for boxing fans, with plenty of big fights on the horizon.
