Julio Cesar Chavez thinks he would have beaten Floyd Mayweather if they fought in their prime. The Mexican boxing legend made this claim in a recent interview with Premier Live TV.

Chavez, a three-weight world champion and former pound-for-pound number one, finished his career with 107 wins, 6 losses, and 2 draws before retiring in September 2005. He's widely seen as one of the best boxers ever.

Chavez explained his reasoning to Premier Live TV:

"In our prime I think it would have been a difficult fight. I believe that at 140lbs or 135lbs I would have definitely beaten him. I would have beaten him why because that is my weight.

I could never dial at 147lbs. I fought for the championship but no it was no my weight. You understand me I think at 135 140 would have beaten Mayweather.

Remember that I fought with his uncle and his uncle was the one who taught him, so that is why I think I would have beaten him."

Chavez points out that he beat Floyd's uncle, Roger Mayweather, in May 1989. He won the WBC super-lightweight title fight by 10th round retirement, taking his record to an impressive 63-0.

Mayweather retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record. He won world honors in five divisions from super-featherweight to super-welterweight and took part in some of boxing's biggest fights.

His notable victories include wins over Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, and Canelo Alvarez. Yet, some boxing figures have claimed Mayweather should have lost certain fights.

We'll never know how a fight between these two legends in their prime would have played out. But Chavez's claim adds to the endless debates that make boxing such a fascinating sport.
