Jermall Charlo's getting ready to step back into the boxing ring after almost two years away. The undefeated former world champion plans to make his comeback in May at 168lbs.

American boxing's been quiet lately in the top weight classes. There are less than five Americans holding world titles from heavyweight down to super-welterweight. Charlo's return could shake things up.

'Hit Man' Charlo's got quite a record. He's been a world champion at both 154lbs and 160lbs and hasn't lost a fight yet. His last big fight was back in June 2021 when he kept his WBC middleweight belt by beating Juan Macias Montiel.

Things got a bit rocky after that. Charlo's career stalled, and he lost his WBC middleweight title in June 2023. The WBC took it away after he got arrested for DWI and dealt with some mental health issues.

But Charlo's not giving up. He's coming back at super middleweight against Thomas Lamanna in May. Here's what Charlo had to say about his return:

"I took the time to rebuild myself and I rebuilt my focus. I'm locked in with my team and I'm ready for this new chapter at super middleweight. The journey continues. I'm back in full effect and I can't wait to show my fans what I've been working on. It's time!"

Charlo's comeback could lead to some big fights. If he wins, he might face Caleb Plant later this year. Plant, who used to hold the IBF super-middleweight title, will fight Armando Resendiz on the same card as Charlo's comeback. If both guys win, we could see them square off soon.
