Canelo Alvarez will knock out Terence Crawford in their upcoming fight, according to legendary trainer Abel Sanchez. The former coach of Gennady Golovkin believes the weight difference will play a huge part in the outcome.
Canelo and Crawford are set to face off later this year in what many call one of the biggest fights in boxing history. Crawford aims to become a five-weight world champion by moving up two weight classes to challenge Canelo, who's dominated the 168lb division for seven years.
Alvarez, 34, from Guadalajara, Mexico, has been the undisputed champion at 168lbs since 2021. He's beaten top fighters like Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo, and Jaime Munguia. Crawford, nicknamed 'Bud', is 37 and will jump up two weight classes for this fight.
Sanchez, who worked with GGG for his first two fights against Canelo, shared his thoughts in an interview with Boxing News. He said:
"Yeah, it's two different people. Yes, Crawford will gain the weight, yes he will be probably around 163 in fight time but Canelo's a bigger man, Canelo has taken shots from big guys and nobody has done anything to him so I don't think this fight should happen, I've said it all along, the money was there for both of them so it's being made, but it's not a fight I would pay to see."
When asked if Canelo would get an 'emphatic' stoppage victory, Sanchez simply replied, "Yeah, I think so."
Before the Crawford fight, Canelo will defend his IBF super middleweight title against William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh. He's trying to become a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs.
Canelo's past fights with Golovkin were some of the most talked-about in recent boxing history. Now, all eyes are on his upcoming clash with Crawford, as fans wait to see if the weight difference will indeed be the deciding factor Sanchez predicts it to be.
