Bob Arum, the boxing promoter who's worked with both Floyd Mayweather and Terence Crawford, thinks Crawford would beat Mayweather if they fought in their prime.
Arum shared his opinion when Sean Zittel asked him who'd win between the two fighters at their best. The promoter didn't hesitate to pick Crawford.
"Crawford is a unique kind of fighter that other fights haven't seen. The ability he has to switch, fighters aren't used to that. They don't train for that. I just think he is a very, very unique talent."
Arum made it clear his pick had nothing to do with his relationship with Crawford. He added, "[Our relationship] has nothing to do with his ability as a fighter … As a fighter, he's a unique, superior guy."
This match-up would've likely happened at welterweight or super-welterweight. Fans have long wondered how Crawford's power and accuracy would fare against Mayweather's top-notch defense.
Mayweather retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record and titles in five weight classes. He was the biggest pay-per-view star in boxing during his career.
Crawford is still active but nearing the end of his career. He's won titles in four weight classes and has been undisputed champion twice. He's now gearing up for a possible fight with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez later this year.
It's worth noting that Mayweather himself has said Crawford is currently the best pound-for-pound fighter. While we'll never see this dream match-up in real life, it's fun to imagine how it might have played out.
