Amir Khan has changed his mind about who will win the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn fight next month. The former world champion now thinks Eubank Jr will come out on top.
The fight was originally set for October 2022 but got canceled when Benn tested positive for a banned substance. For more than two years, Benn has been working to clear his name. He's now allowed to fight in the UK again, starting in late 2024.
Khan initially thought Benn would win, but he's now reconsidered after looking at the physical differences between the two fighters. In an interview with Froch on Fighting, Khan explained his change of heart:
"You know, I was saying Conor was gonna win a couple of weeks ago. I thought he was the aggressor, but then looking at the size difference and realised he's going up not one but two weights, these weights are made for a purpose."
Khan pointed out that Benn is moving up two weight classes for this fight, while Eubank Jr is naturally much bigger. Eubank Jr also has more experience fighting at a higher level against well-known opponents.
The size difference reminded Khan of his own experience fighting Canelo Alvarez, where the weight difference played a big role. However, he made sure to clarify that Eubank Jr isn't on the same level as Canelo.
Khan believes Eubank Jr's advantages in weight, power, strength, height, and overall size will be too much for Benn to overcome.
There's a catch, though. Eubank Jr will face penalties if he adds more than 10lbs by the morning of the fight. This rule aims to keep the weight difference from getting too extreme.
As the fight gets closer, it's clear that the size difference between Eubank Jr and Benn will be a major talking point. We'll have to wait and see if Khan's new prediction turns out to be right.
