Gervonta Davis doesn't buy Terence Crawford's reasons for wanting to fight Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. The big puncher from Baltimore thinks it's all about the money for Crawford.
Crawford and Canelo are set to face off in Las Vegas later this year. It's a big jump for Crawford, who'll move up two weight classes to take on the undefeated super middleweight champ. Canelo's proven tough to hurt and has never been knocked down.
A lot of folks think the gap might be too big for Crawford to overcome, even though he's a top-notch fighter. Crawford says it's all about making his mark in boxing history. He claims a win over Canelo will put him among the top three fighters of all time.
But Davis isn't convinced. He shared his thoughts with the media before his recent fight with Lamont Roach Jr., which ended in a controversial draw.
"Crawford needs the money. I'm telling you … That's why he says he don't like me, cause I speak real s**t."
When asked if Crawford could beat Canelo, Davis seemed doubtful. He did give Crawford props, calling him a good fighter. Davis also pointed out that smaller fighters often have an edge because they're more nimble.
Canelo's got his hands full with a unification bout against William Scull coming up. If he wins, he'll be a two-time undisputed champ at super middleweight. That might give Crawford even more reason to want this fight in September.
