Ryan Garcia thinks Gervonta Davis will beat Lamont Roach in their upcoming rematch this summer. Garcia believes Davis will change his approach and expects a tougher fight this time around.
Davis and Roach first fought in March, ending in a controversial majority draw. Roach matched Davis throughout all 12 rounds. The fight had a contentious moment in the ninth round when Davis took a knee, but the referee didn't count it. The judges scored it 115-113 for Davis and 114-114 twice. The decision not to score the 9th round as 10-8 for Roach cost him the WBA lightweight title.
Garcia, who lost to Davis by 7th round stoppage in April 2023, shared his prediction in a recent interview with ESNews:
"I got Tank. I think he'll put on a different gear. I think he just thought it would be easier than it was and thought Roach would fold and he didn't. Now he should expect a harder fight and I think he wins the rematch."
Garcia believes Davis underestimated Roach in their first bout. He expects Davis to adjust his strategy and come in more prepared for a challenging fight.
While Garcia focuses on the Davis-Roach rematch, he's got his own fight coming up. He'll face Rolly Romero in Times Square, New York, this May. Looking ahead, Garcia might get a rematch with Devin Haney later this year. There's also talk of a potential rematch with Davis down the line.
The boxing world will watch closely to see if Garcia's prediction comes true and if Davis can secure a clear victory in the rematch against Roach.
