Jaime Munguía and Bruno Surace are set to face off again on May 3rd in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The rematch will serve as the co-main event on Canelo Alvarez's fight card.
Their first encounter in Tijuana, Mexico on December 14, 2024, ended with Surace knocking out Munguía in the sixth round. The result caught many by surprise and shook up the boxing world.
After the loss, Munguía didn't waste time. He joined Canelo Alvarez's training team under the guidance of Eddy Reynoso. For the past few months, he's been working hard to get his career back on track.
Now, just five months after their first fight, Munguía (44-2, 35 KOs) will try to even the score against the undefeated Frenchman Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs). The Mexican boxer aims to prove he's still got what it takes and return to his winning ways.
The main event of the evening will see Canelo Alvarez defend his WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight world titles against the undefeated Cuban IBF champion William Scull at 168 pounds.
The card also features some other exciting matchups. Heavyweight contenders Martin Bakole and Efe Ajagba will clash, while Badou Jack takes on Ryan Rozicki.
"I've been working extremely hard with Eddy and the team," Munguía said. "I learned a lot from the first fight with Surace. This time, I'll show everyone the real Jaime Munguía."
Fight fans will also get to see the professional debut of Marco Verde. The silver medalist from the Paris 2024 Olympics will face Michel Polina. Verde narrowly missed out on gold in Paris, losing to Uzbekistan's Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev in the final.
"I'm thrilled to make my pro debut on such a big stage," Verde commented. "My amateur experience has prepared me well, and I'm ready to make a statement in the pros."
The event in Riyadh promises to deliver an action-packed night of boxing, with both established stars and rising talents sharing the spotlight.
