Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach's recent fight at the Barclays Center in New York ended in a majority decision draw, but the boxing world can't stop talking about it. The match sparked controversy when Davis took a knee in the ninth round, and the referee's handling of the situation left fans and experts scratching their heads.
Tim Bradley, a former two-weight world champion, shared his thoughts on the fight on his YouTube channel. He didn't pull any punches when it came to his analysis.
"I went back and watched the knockdown, because that sh*t was a knockdown. He got hit with a shot and then he took the knee."
Bradley criticized Davis for what he saw as bending the rules. He pointed out that boxers can't call their own time-outs and that only the referee can guide a fighter to the corner to address an issue like something in the eye. He also added that Davis' choice of hairstyle wasn't an excuse.
"You cannot take your own time outs in boxing. You can't do that. The only person that can take Tank to that corner to wipe his eye is the referee himself. You chose to wear those braids. That's Tank's fault."
Bradley didn't stop there. He went back and rescored the fight, coming up with a very different result from the official decision.
"I went back and scored it. I got it 7 rounds to 5, or even 8-4. And I got it for Roach. Ain't no shade on Tank, but I'm telling you, he lost this fight. He got out hustled."
Roach wasn't happy with the draw either. He launched an appeal to change the result, but the New York State Athletic Commission stood firm on the original decision. Fans might get to see a rematch this summer, giving both fighters a chance to settle the score once and for all.
The controversy has got the boxing world buzzing, with fans and experts alike weighing in on what really happened that night at the Barclays Center. It's clear that this fight will be talked about for a long time to come.
