Amir Khan wants to see Tyson Fury come out of retirement to face Anthony Joshua. The former world champion shared his thoughts on the potential matchup between the two British heavyweights.
Khan talked to the Lancashire Post about the fight everyone wants to see. He thinks it'll be close and go the distance.
"It'll be a good, close fight. I think it will go the distance, but it will be good to see because both fighters are at a good level. Anthony Joshua has had some good wins (before Daniel Dubois) and looked really good and revived."
Khan says Fury's recent losses to Oleksandr Usyk have evened the playing field. He believes it's now a 50/50 fight. But if Fury gets his confidence back, Khan thinks he'll win.
"Then you look at Tyson Fury. He has to be in that type of position to make it a close fight with Anthony Joshua. If Fury is still at the top and has all of the confidence, then I think Fury wins that fight all day long. But with the last two fights, it's even and is a 50/50 fight now."
Both fighters have had setbacks lately. Fury lost twice to Usyk in 2024 and retired in January. Joshua got knocked out by Daniel Dubois. Now, Joshua's looking for a big fight while Fury's on the sidelines.
Khan suggests Fury should take a couple of warm-up fights before facing Joshua. He worries about the mental impact of Fury's recent losses. Khan knows from experience how tough it can be. He felt mentally done after losing to Lamont Peterson and got knocked out by Danny Garcia despite outboxing him.
But Khan doesn't think Fury will take his advice. He expects the bold heavyweight to jump straight into a fight with Joshua if he comes back.
"But knowing Fury with the b**** he has got, he will want to jump straight into that fight which would be very hard."
If Fury stays retired, Joshua might rematch Dubois. That's what Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, wants. But Dubois has his sights set on an undisputed clash with Usyk. That could leave Joshua without a big fight option.
Khan, who had his own all-British showdown with Kell Brook in 2022, knows the public wants to see Fury vs Joshua. It's been a long-anticipated clash between two of Britain's top heavyweights. Now, we'll have to wait and see if it happens.
