Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are set to face off in the ring on April 26 at London's Tottenham Hotspurs stadium. The bout will continue the famous rivalry between their families, picking up where their fathers left off decades ago.
This fight was originally planned for October 2022 but got called off when Benn failed two VADA drug tests for clomifene. After a legal battle, Benn got cleared to fight late last year, and the two camps signed a new deal early in 2024.
But Chris Eubank Sr doesn't think the fight will happen. In a recent interview, he said:
"Conor used to be a 147 fighter, he's being spoiled, he's being misled, Harlem is the man for him. When the fight falls through, which it will, and I'm talking about Junior against Conor, Harlem is going to be ready. It may not be on the same date but thats going to be the next fight for them I believe."
Eubank Sr suggests that Harlem Eubank, another member of the Eubank family, should be Benn's opponent instead. He's certain the current matchup won't go ahead:
"Absolutely [it's not going to happen]. I said it the last time if you check back when the fight was made the first time I said it's not going to happen and the day before the fight it was pulled."
Despite Eubank Sr's claims, the fight is still scheduled. There are only seven weeks left until the event. Fans can find more details about the bout on the Matchroom Boxing website.
The boxing world will have to wait and see if Eubank Sr's prediction comes true or if the long-awaited clash between Eubank Jr and Benn finally takes place.
