Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez has decided to fight William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, instead of taking on Jake Paul. The boxing superstar made this clear in a recent chat with CBS Sports' Brian Campbell.

Canelo explained why he's not interested in facing Paul right now. He said:

"I don't even call [boxing Paul] a fight, it's more of an event than a fight. That event can wait until I retire"

The Mexican champion wants to keep making history in boxing. He thinks William Scull is a better opponent for him at this point in his career. Canelo holds the WBC, WBA, and WBO middleweight titles. He's aiming to get the IBF belt too, which Scull currently has.

This decision has got people talking. Jake Paul wasn't happy about it. He claimed Canelo was offered a lot of money to avoid fighting him. But Canelo isn't interested in that kind of bout right now.

Canelo has signed a deal for multiple fights with promoter Turki Alalshikh. He's looking forward to his upcoming bout with Scull and wants to set up more fights after that.

The champ is focused on becoming the undisputed middleweight champion again. He's not interested in events that might take away from his boxing legacy. Canelo wants to face top-level boxers and cement his place in boxing history.

As for a potential fight with Jake Paul? Canelo's saying it can wait until he hangs up his gloves. For now, he's all about chasing those championship belts and taking on the best in the boxing world.
