Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will face off in a much-awaited boxing match on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The fight reignites a family rivalry that's been brewing for decades.
Billy Joe Saunders, a former world super middleweight champion, thinks Benn will knock out Eubank Jr. Saunders has a history with Eubank Jr, having beaten him in a grudge match over 10 years ago.
"As of late he's looked a little bit old should we say, and don't forget Eubank's not the kind of boxer to get on behind his jab, get a nice lead, use his footwork, he's been in some scraps and he's been in some good scraps with not the best opponents but they've still give him some good work, I just think if Conor catches him clean and can follow up on one of them good shots, sort of like a Liam Smith shot, I think Conor Benn knocks him out."
Saunders shared these thoughts in a recent interview. He points out that Eubank Jr has looked old recently and his fighting style makes him vulnerable. Eubank Jr tends to get involved in scraps rather than using his jab and footwork.
The 28-year-old Benn, from London, hasn't fought in over a year. His last bout against Peter Dobson was underwhelming. Despite this, Saunders believes Benn has the potential to land clean shots and finish the fight.
This match was originally set for October 2022 but got cancelled when Benn tested positive for clomifene. The British Boxing Board of Control stripped him of his license as a result. Now, Benn's expected to get his license back, paving the way for this fight.
The bout has stirred up a lot of interest, partly due to the history between their fathers. Eubank Jr and Saunders have their own history too, with Saunders winning their previous encounter on points.
