Gervonta Davis has set a condition for Shakur Stevenson to get a shot at him. The WBA lightweight champion wants Stevenson to face Keyshawn Davis first.
'Tank' Davis and Stevenson have been on a collision course for years. Both fighters hold belts in the lightweight division, with Davis as the WBA champion and Stevenson recently winning the WBC title against Edwin De Los Santos in late 2023.
During a recent media scrum, Davis shared his thoughts on the potential matchup. He suggested that Stevenson should fight Keyshawn Davis, the current WBO lightweight champion.
"They should. They ain't under the same coaches or none of that. They keep screaming this 'brother' s**t out. F**k outta here, man. They do need to fight."
Davis didn't stop there. He also criticized Keyshawn's recent victory over Denys Berinchyk on February 14.
"[Berinchyk] was ass … Garbage. Top Rank know how to do it. Top Rank is good at putting people in front of you, they probably have a good record but they be ass. See who they fought. That guy that had that belt, he was worse than [George] Kambosos."
After beating Berinchyk, 'The Businessman' Keyshawn Davis called out Gervonta Davis for a unification showdown. But Davis' ultimatum isn't likely to be followed. Stevenson and Keyshawn have a strong relationship outside the ring and aren't interested in fighting each other.
Davis is set to defend his WBA title against Lamont Roach Jr on March 1. The unbeaten champion will look to continue his impressive run in the lightweight division.
As the lightweight division heats up, fans will have to wait and see if a showdown between Davis and Stevenson will ever materialize.
