Dave Allen thinks Agit Kabayel can beat Oleksandr Usyk. The British heavyweight boxer shared this surprising view recently, after Usyk's victory over Tyson Fury on December 21.
Usyk, the 38-year-old Ukrainian, has been on a roll. He's now the undisputed heavyweight champion of the 'four belt era', holding the WBC, WBA, and WBO heavyweight titles. His unanimous decision win over Fury cemented his status as the greatest heavyweight of his generation. This wasn't Usyk's first victory over Fury either. He handed the 'Gypsy King' his first professional loss in May last year via split decision.
Allen, a popular figure in British boxing, shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel. He said:
"If you asked me now to pick a heavyweight to beat Oleksandr Usyk, I would pick Kabayel. He can do a little bit of everything really. He can box, he can fight, he'd a body puncher, he's tough, he literally has everything."
Agit Kabayel, the 32-year-old German from Leverkusen, has been making waves in the heavyweight division. He recently became the WBC 'Interim' heavyweight champion by defeating Zhilei 'Big Bang' Zhang on February 22 in Riyadh. Kabayel showed his toughness in that fight. He got up from a knockdown and became the first to stop Zhang inside the distance, dropping him with a powerful body shot in the sixth round.
Kabayel's wins over Arslanbek Makhmudov and Frank Sanchez have also put him in a prime position in the WBC rankings. He's now seen as a serious threat in the heavyweight division.
While Allen sees Kabayel as the man to beat Usyk, the Ukrainian champ might have other plans. He'll likely face Daniel Dubois next in a rematch. If Usyk wins, he'll have a chance to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.
