Keyshawn Davis, the new WBO lightweight champion, wants to fight Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz in his first title defense. The 25-year-old from Norfolk, Virginia, known as "The Businessman," just won the belt on February 14, 2025.
Davis stopped Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round to claim the WBO lightweight championship in New York City. Now, he's already looking ahead to his next challenge.
In a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Davis shared his thoughts on his next opponent:
"You honestly want to know? … I wanna fight Isaac Cruz. I think that would sell, I think we will both make some money off that. At the end of the day, I think it makes sense.
Davis believes a fight between him and Cruz will be a big draw. He explained:
Let's be real, Mexicans and African Americans, when we fight it's always a mega fight, it's respect to that team over there, it's respect over here, so I think we could make that fight happen.
Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz, 26, from Mexico City, has had an eventful few years. He won the WBA super lightweight title in March 2024 by beating Rolando Romero but lost it a few months later to José Valenzuela.
Cruz gained recognition in December 2021 when he became only the second fighter to go the distance with Gervonta 'Tank' Davis in a WBA lightweight title fight. Though he lost by unanimous decision, Cruz earned respect for his performance.
Most recently, Cruz won a points decision against Angel Fierro on February 1, 2025, in Las Vegas. For the proposed fight with Davis to happen, Cruz will need to drop back down to lightweight (135lbs).
If the fight gets made, it will give Cruz a chance to become a two-time world champion. It's a matchup that promises action and could be a big draw for boxing fans.
