Jaron Ennis and Eimantas Stanionis will face off in a welterweight title unification bout on April 12. The fight will take place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, with both fighters' championships on the line.
Ennis, known as "Boots," holds the IBF welterweight title. He got the belt in November 2023 when he was moved up from interim champion after Terence Crawford was stripped. The undefeated fighter has a record of 33 wins and no losses, with one no contest.
Before getting the full title, Ennis had some impressive wins. He stopped David Avanesyan after five rounds last July. Then in November, he beat Karen Chukhadzhian by unanimous decision in a rematch.
Stanionis, the WBA welterweight champion from Lithuania, also got his title when Crawford gave up his belts to move up in weight. He was moved up from 'Regular' champion to full champion status.
In a recent interview with Mill City Boxing, Stanionis responded to Ennis's claim that he only moves forward in the ring:
"I think he's right. I'm going forward and straight forward. Like a truck going forward, all gas no break. April 12 we will see."
The winner of this fight might have a big opportunity later in the year. There's been talk that if Ennis wins, he could face Teofimo Lopez, the WBO super-lightweight champion.
ESPN has confirmed the details of the April 12 fight. Boxing fans will be watching closely to see which of these champions comes out on top in this unification bout.
