Shannon Briggs, the former world champion known for his "Let's go champ!" catchphrase, has shared his thoughts on Wladimir Klitschko's potential comeback. Briggs doesn't think it'll be easy for the Ukrainian legend to regain a world title at nearly 49 years old.
Briggs and Klitschko have a history. The larger-than-life American famously chased Klitschko for a fight, shouting his catchphrase at every chance he got. That fight never happened, but Briggs did face Wladimir's brother Vitali in the ring, taking a tough beating.
Klitschko's last two fights didn't go his way. He lost to Tyson Fury and then had an epic contest with Anthony Joshua in 2017. Both men hit the canvas in that fight, but 'AJ' came out on top. Klitschko decided to hang up his gloves after that loss.
Now, there's talk about Klitschko making a comeback. Some have even mentioned a potential fight with Daniel Dubois. When asked about it by Sky Sports, Briggs shared his doubts:
"It's hard for me to believe that Klitschko can come back and go into a heavyweight championship fight without a series of interim fights. It's just really hard to believe."
Since retiring, Klitschko hasn't been near a boxing ring much. He watched his countryman Oleksandr Usyk become the undisputed world champion, but that's about it.
Briggs, meanwhile, has his own plans. He's focusing on opening a boxing academy in Brownsville, Brooklyn. It looks like both former champs are finding new ways to stay involved in the sport they love.
