This match-up has been in the works for a while. The fighters were supposed to meet in October 2022, but the bout got called off when Benn failed drug tests. Since then, Benn has worked to clear his name, which he managed to do late last year.
Both fighters have been active recently. Benn has fought twice, going the distance in both low-key fights. Eubank Jr, on the other hand, has had three fights. He lost to Liam Smith by knockout, then won the immediate rematch, also by knockout. In October, he stopped Kamil Szeremeta in the seventh round.
Roy Jones Jr, a former multi-weight world champion who used to train Eubank Jr, thinks the bigger man will come out on top. He shared his thoughts on The Podghost Podcast:
"It's gonna be hard for [Benn] to beat Chris Eubank because Chris Eubank is bigger, faster, he hits harder, he has more experience in big fights, I don't see how you're gonna beat Chris Eubank."
Jones Jr pointed out that Eubank Jr has several advantages over Benn. He's naturally bigger, while Benn is moving up from welterweight. Eubank Jr also has more experience in big fights.
The fight contract includes a rehydration clause, which Eubank Jr has publicly criticized. This clause limits how much weight fighters can gain after the weigh-in, which could affect Eubank Jr more as the naturally larger fighter.
Both fighters will need to be at their best for this long-awaited showdown. With their recent activities and the build-up to this fight, fans can expect an exciting match-up come April.
