The two British heavyweights have been trying to set up a fight for years. Now, it could finally happen. Neither fighter is at their best right now, and they're not in the running for world titles. But that might make it easier to set up the match.
Fury's not looking great after losing twice to Oleksandr Usyk. He says he's done with boxing. Joshua's not doing much better. He's trying to come back after Daniel Dubois knocked him out. Before that, he lost twice to Usyk too.
Teddy Atlas, a well-known boxing expert, shared his thoughts on the Froch on Fighting show. He won't pick a winner, but he thinks Joshua might be in better shape.
It's a few years too late … But, here's my answer: who's got more left? Physically, more left. Because both of them have left something in the ring. When you're in a tough fight, especially when you get older, you leave pieces of yourself in the ring. Maybe Joshua [has more left]. Fury took a lot punishment in those Wilder fights and a lot of punishment in that first Usyk fight. I tell you who I think's got a chance to better mentally recover, that would be Fury. I think he's more resilient mentally. But from a physical standpoint, Joshua might, might, have a little bit more left. Very interesting.
Atlas points out that Fury took a lot of hits in his fights with Deontay Wilder and Usyk. But he thinks Fury's mentally tougher than Joshua.
For this fight to happen, Fury needs to come out of retirement. It's not clear if he'll do that before Joshua finds another opponent. Joshua will fight someone either way.
Fury's retirement announcement has left fans wondering if the Joshua fight will ever happen. But in boxing, retirements often don't last long. We'll have to wait and see what Fury decides to do.
