On Jan. 9, Jamel Herring was taken on assault and domestic violence charges to the Warren County Jail, where he remained in custody awaiting arraignment. In Jennifer Herring's initial report, police say her husband entered their home at about 2 a.m. while "extremely intoxicated" before he began "harassing" her about marital problems.

According to the police report, Jennifer Herring accused Jamel Herring of "brutally" attacking her, beating her, pulling her hair and throwing her across the room. Mrs. Herring then stated that "Mr. Herring was choking her and she felt like he was going to kill her because she was having trouble breathing."

When officers initially interviewed Jamel Herring and told him about his wife sharing photos of abrasions on his neck after the incident, he said the photos were from a previous incident in December 2023 for which he had already been arrested.

Jamel Herring has had at least three recent incidents with police. First was a 2018 arrest when Herring, a former Marine, received 90 days probation and was sentenced to 90 days of community service, one year of probation and one year of treatment for PTSD.

As for the latest case, Herring's court date is set for Jan. 21.

The 39-year-old last fought in April when he lost a split decision to Jackson John Ingland by judges' decision.
