Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez might soon add another achievement to his impressive boxing career. The Mexican superstar has started talks to fight William Scull for the IBF super-middleweight title, aiming to become a two-time undisputed champion in the division.

Canelo's journey in the super-middleweight class has been remarkable. He first became the undisputed champion in 2021 after beating Caleb Plant. Since then, he's successfully defended his titles against big names like Gennady Golovkin, John Ryder, Jermell Charlo, and Jaime Munguia, winning all these fights on points.

Alvarez faced a setback when he moved up to light-heavyweight and lost to Dmitry Bivol. But he bounced back in his recent fight against Edgar Berlanga. Canelo scored a knockdown and won by a wide margin against the WBA's top challenger, adding another chapter to the Mexico-Puerto Rico rivalry.

Earlier, the IBF ordered Canelo to face William Scull. Alvarez chose to give up the IBF title, preferring a more profitable fight with Berlanga. He made his stance clear in an interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game:

"There are levels. There are stars and there are superstars. They make the championship, not the championship makes them. Who is William Scull? I never hear about him. I'm not gonna do whatever they want. I'm gonna do whatever I want. Because I deserve it, because of all I have done."

While Canelo was busy with other fights, Scull won the vacant IBF super-middleweight title. He defeated Vladimir Shiskin in Germany last October in a fight that didn't get much attention.

Now, it seems Canelo has changed his mind about the IBF title. Scull revealed in an interview with Alberto León Pacheco and in an Instagram post that negotiations with Canelo's team started on January 10. They're aiming for a May fight in Las Vegas.

If the fight happens, it will give Canelo a chance to regain his status as the undisputed super-middleweight champion. It's a clear sign that Alvarez still has big goals in the division and wants to cement his legacy as one of boxing's all-time greats.
