Roy Jones Jr. thinks Anthony Joshua can become a world champion again. The former world champion believes Joshua's heart and athletic ability will help him reclaim a title in the future.
Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion and Olympic Gold Medalist, has had a rocky road lately. He lost his last fight against Daniel Dubois in September. Dubois stopped Joshua in the fifth round after putting him down twice, taking the IBF heavyweight world title.
Before that loss, Joshua had been on a good run. He won four straight fights after losing twice to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022. Now, he's taking some time to recover from small injuries and figure out his next move.
In a recent interview with Covers.com, Roy Jones Jr. shared his thoughts on Joshua's future:
"It's still possible he becomes a world champion, he still has the heart, he's still got the athletic ability, so I think he could."
Jones Jr. also talked about what could have been if he had worked with Joshua:
"Of course things would have been different if I had the chance to work with [Joshua], but you can't blame people for their opinion and the way they do things. I feel bad the way they thought about me working with him, I know what I could have helped him out with and how much I could have changed him but I can't change what doesn't want to be changed."
Even though Joshua doesn't have a world title right now, he's still a big name in boxing. There's talk about a possible fight with Tyson Fury. That would be a huge event, even without world titles on the line. It's one of the fights fans want to see most in the sport.
For now, Joshua's taking his time to heal and plan his next move. With his skills and determination, and support from boxing legends like Roy Jones Jr., Joshua's journey back to the top of the heavyweight division will be one to watch.
