Gervonta Davis knocked out Ryan Garcia in a big boxing match last year. Now, the fighters say they want to do it again.
Davis and Garcia met in one of 2023's biggest fights. Garcia came out strong early, putting pressure on Davis. But 'Tank' soon took control, scoring a knockdown in the second round. For the next few rounds, Davis kept Garcia backing up.
In the seventh round, Davis landed a body shot that ended the fight. Garcia couldn't get up before the count, giving Davis the knockout win.
After the fight, Davis talked about Garcia's power:
"He caught me with a shot? Oh, with the brick hand, with his right hand? It's boxing, he probably caught me with a good shot. There was no shots that caught me today that I felt like I was in trouble. I just stayed calm. I felt like he was move anxious than me. You want to stay calm at all costs cause you don't want to make a bad decision, and that's what he did. He came in and he was rushing and he ran into a shot. I knew off the get go I want to stay calm and collected."
Before facing Davis, Garcia had 23 wins with 19 knockouts and no losses. The 26-year-old is known for his fast hands and powerful hook.
Recently, Garcia beat Devin Haney, but the win got changed to "no contest" because Garcia failed drug tests. He's now suspended until April 2025.
Davis plans to keep busy. He'll fight Lamont Roach Jr on March 1 in Brooklyn. But Davis also says he'll retire at the end of the year.
A fan told Davis the rematch with Garcia won't happen. Davis replied, "yes it will." Garcia then said, "let's settle this."
We'll have to wait and see if Davis and Garcia can make the rematch happen before 'Tank' hangs up his gloves.
