Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has changed his tune about fighting Terence Crawford. The Mexican superstar now says he'll take on the American if the price is right.
Canelo used to think he'd get no credit for beating a much smaller man. But now he's open to the idea, as long as it makes financial sense. Crawford, for his part, keeps pushing for the bout and is willing to jump up two weight classes to make it happen.
If Crawford's team can meet Canelo's money demands, we might see this fight in 2025. It's got people talking about how Crawford's skills would stack up against Canelo's experience at super-middleweight.
Canelo doesn't think Crawford stands a chance. He told Sway's Universe:
"I'm in. Why not? Don't get me wrong, he's a great fighter but for me, in my weight class, it's an easy fight. Easy money. If the money is right, I'm in, because I don't like to fight guys like Crawford because he moves a lot and the fight is not that great, I saw in his last fight and he don't move that much now. So if the money is right I'm in right now ⦠there are weight classes for a reason."
Canelo thinks it'll be easy money. He's noticed Crawford doesn't move as much as he used to, which makes him more willing to take the fight. But he still thinks the weight difference is a big deal.
Crawford knows size is a worry, but he's sure he can beat Alvarez. Some folks aren't so sure after watching Crawford's latest fight. He won on points against Israil Madrimov at super-welterweight, but it wasn't his most impressive showing.
The debate rages on about whether Crawford's elite skills can overcome Canelo's proven status as the best in the super-middleweight division. We'll have to wait and see if this dream match-up becomes a reality.
