Shawn Porter thinks Tyson Fury will beat Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch on December 21. Porter, who beat Usyk in amateur boxing, shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight.
Back in 2006, Porter and Usyk faced off in the amateurs at 165lbs. Porter won that bout with a right hand that scored crucial points. Since then, both fighters have come a long way in their careers.
Usyk went on to win an Olympic gold medal in 2012 and turned pro as a cruiserweight. He became the undisputed champion in that division before moving up to heavyweight, where he's now the undisputed champ.
Porter, on the other hand, became a two-time welterweight world champion. He fought top guys like Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. before retiring from the sport.
In their first fight this May, Usyk beat Fury by a close decision. Now, they're getting ready to do it again.
Porter told FightHub why he thinks Fury will win the rematch:
"Tyson's bigger, stronger, and sharper on the outside. He got lazy and lost the second half of the fight, even getting knocked down. But I'm willing to bet Fury wins this time."
Porter points out that both Usyk's greatness and the tough fights Fury's been through make this a 50-50 fight. But he's leaning towards Fury based on how he's handled rematches before.
We saw this with Fury's fights against Deontay Wilder. Their first bout ended in a draw. But in the next two, Fury stopped Wilder both times. He seems to figure out his opponents and do better in rematches.
The stakes are high for this fight on December 21. Fury and Usyk will be battling it out for the undisputed heavyweight championship. It's a chance for one of them to prove they're the top dog in boxing's biggest division.
