Mike Tyson and Jake Paul stepped into the ring for a highly talked-about boxing match last November. The event made history as the first live boxing show on Netflix, pulling in a whopping 65 million viewers at its peak.
The fight was first announced in March 2023, originally set for July. Tyson had to push it back, and the new date was set for November. When the night finally came, Paul took control for most of the eight two-minute rounds. The 58-year-old Tyson, once known as "The Baddest Man On The Planet," couldn't bring back the magic from his glory days.
Netflix reported that the event brought in over $18 million at the gate. But despite the big numbers, many felt the actual fight didn't live up to the hype.
Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao shared his thoughts on the match. In an interview with Boxing Social, the eight-division champion said:
"It's up to him [if he fights again], he's the one who can feel his body. It was old age for Mike Tyson, but he finished the eight rounds. Good for him."
Pacquiao's words highlight how Tyson's age played a big part in his performance. Even so, he gave the former champ credit for lasting the full fight.
After the bout, Tyson hinted that he'll probably stay retired. But the boxing world keeps turning, and Tyson's old rival Evander Holyfield has already called for a third fight between them.
As for Jake Paul, his dominant showing in the ring has set him up for more big fights down the road. The YouTuber-turned-boxer proved he can handle himself against a legendary name, even if that name isn't in his prime anymore.
