Daniel Dubois, the IBF heavyweight champion, has weighed in on the recent Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight. The bout, which took place in Arlington, Texas, has stirred up quite a bit of talk in the boxing world.
Paul won the eight-round fight on points, but many people weren't happy about it. They worried about Tyson's safety, given that he's almost 60 and hasn't fought professionally in nearly 20 years. Paul, while young, doesn't have much experience in the ring.
The fight didn't live up to expectations. Tyson couldn't throw more than 20 punches throughout the whole thing, and Paul seemed to hold back out of respect for the older boxer.
Dubois shared his thoughts in an interview with Bricks to Riches. He had nothing but praise for Tyson:
"Mike Tyson's a winner either way. To earn 20 million at his age just cause of his name and what he did in the past. Credit to him, he's a legend in the sport."
When asked if he thought the fight was real or scripted, Dubois didn't mince words:
"I think it was real. Like I said, Mike's a winner either way. He's nearly 60 years old, what do you expect?"
Dubois also had something to say to Paul: "If Jake wants it with me he can get it too." He's already sent Paul a message offering him a shot at the heavyweight title. But Dubois won't take it easy on him if they do fight:
"I wouldn't take no one lightly. If a man has a chance to become world champion, if he's smart, he'll go to town and be the best version of himself."
Paul has said he doesn't want the fight right now but might be interested later on.
Dubois has his own fight coming up on February 22, though his opponent hasn't been announced yet. Fans are keen to see him in a rematch with Anthony Joshua or unifying the belts against the winner of the upcoming Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury rematch.
