Tyson Fury doesn't think Anthony Joshua can beat Daniel Dubois in a rematch. The heavyweight champion shared his thoughts in a recent interview with The Stomping Ground.
Fury's comments come after Joshua's surprising loss to Dubois in September. Dubois knocked out Joshua in the fifth round to claim the IBF belt, shocking many boxing fans who expected an easy win for Joshua.
When asked about the first fight, Fury said:
"People wasn't respecting his name. They thought it was the Anthony Joshua show and that he was going to knock him over. No one was respecting Dubois."
As for a potential rematch, Fury doesn't see it happening. He told The Stomping Ground:
"No. I don't think he can. I don't even think he will take the rematch."
Joshua's team initially seemed keen on an immediate rematch. But now they say he won't be ready for a February fight due to injury issues. Dubois, on the other hand, wants to get back in the ring as soon as possible.
Fury knows a thing or two about rematches. He fought Deontay Wilder to a draw in December 2018. Then he changed his strategy and knocked out Wilder in two big rematches.
Joshua has his own rematch experience. After losing to Andy Ruiz Jr in June 2019, he boxed safely on the back foot to win a wide points decision in the rematch that December.
But Joshua has struggled recently. He lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk before the knockout defeat to Dubois in September.
While Joshua ponders his next move, Fury is getting ready for his own big fight. He'll face Usyk in December with three of the four major world titles on the line. Fury will try to avenge the only loss of his career.
