Buster Douglas, the man who shocked the boxing world by beating Mike Tyson, thinks only one current heavyweight could give a prime Tyson trouble. Douglas shared his views on today's heavyweight scene and Tyson's upcoming fight with Jake Paul.
Douglas knows a thing or two about facing Tyson. He pulled off one of boxing's biggest upsets when he knocked out the seemingly unbeatable champion. Now, he's weighing in on how Tyson might fare against today's top heavyweights.
In a chat with Gambling Zone, Douglas said Tyson's looking good in training clips for his fight with Jake Paul. He thinks Tyson can put up a good showing and could handle himself against current heavyweights.
But Douglas isn't impressed with today's heavyweight division. He thinks the talent pool isn't great compared to his era.
"I speak to my trainer about today's heavyweights and he has a low opinion of them and says they [Fury and AJ] wouldn't have been in the top 30 in my era, I have to agree. They have skills, but as far as endurance, I don't know. They don't seem to be able to withstand power and aggressiveness."
Douglas reckons only Oleksandr Usyk would have a shot at beating a prime Tyson. He dismissed Tyson Fury as a potential opponent for prime Tyson and said Anthony Joshua would be an easy fight.
Usyk has beaten both Joshua and Fury. He's now the four-belt king of the heavyweight division and will fight Fury again in December.
Tyson became world heavyweight champion at just 20 years old and unified the titles a year later. He was a fearsome and fearless fighter in his prime. Now, at 57, he's planning a comeback fight against Jake Paul, set for one month before the Usyk-Fury rematch.
Douglas' upset win over Tyson remains one of boxing's most shocking moments. But he couldn't hold onto the belts for long, losing them in his first defense against Evander Holyfield.
