Kyrone Davis, a middleweight contender who's sparred with both Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, thinks Canelo will win if the two champions face off. Davis says Canelo's size will make the difference.
Canelo Alvarez is still riding high after his unanimous decision win over Edgar Berlanga in September. The Mexican star kept his WBC, WBA, and WBO super-middleweight titles in that fight.
Crawford moved up to 154lbs in August, beating Israil Madrimov on points to grab the WBA super-welterweight belt. He's made it clear he's ready to jump up to 168lbs to take on Canelo.
Davis shared his thoughts on the potential matchup in an interview with YSM Sports Media. He said:
"Everybody knows that Crawford got the skills. I do think Canelo is a little big for Crawford and it would be a tall task for him to win. It will be a lot for him to get that victory based on size alone."
The middleweight contender pointed out that Canelo's combination of size and skills will make it tough for Crawford:
"Not that size wins fights but you got a guy that has size and skills. It will be hard."
Davis thinks the power difference will play a big role if they fight at super-middleweight:
"It will be a lot harder to damage Canelo. His punches will be way more effective than Crawford's punches if they fight at 168."
Despite favoring Canelo, Davis didn't rule out Crawford's chances completely, saying that nothing is impossible in boxing.
Boxing legend Miguel Cotto has also weighed in on this potential superfight, but his thoughts weren't included in the report.
Both Canelo and Crawford are looking for their next opponents. The boxing world will be watching closely to see if this dream matchup comes together.
