Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez might fight each other next year. The idea of these two champions facing off has got boxing fans talking.
Crawford just became a four-weight world champion. He beat Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title at 154lbs. This win added another impressive achievement to Crawford's record. Now, 'Bud' wants to jump up two weight divisions to super-middleweight to fight Canelo.
Canelo Alvarez is the current super-middleweight champion at 168lbs. He holds the WBC, WBA, and WBO titles. Alvarez recently lost his IBF belt when he didn't fight his mandatory challenger, William Scull. In September, Canelo beat Edgar Berlanga by unanimous decision and kept his other titles.
Miguel Cotto, a boxing legend who won world titles in four weight classes, shared his thoughts on the potential fight. He said:
"The set of skills that Crawford has can cause a lot of trouble for Canelo."
Cotto knows what it's like to face Canelo. He fought Alvarez in November 2015, late in his career, and lost by unanimous decision.
Crawford has said he'll return to the ring soon. He's even mentioned the only man he thinks can beat him. But a fight with Canelo isn't certain yet. We'll have to wait and see if these two champions will face off next year.
