Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez might face each other in the ring soon. Fans want to see this fight happen, and now Teofimo Lopez has shared his thoughts on who'd win.
Lopez, a two-weight world champion, watched Benavidez fight Demetrius Andrade from ringside. He came away impressed with what he saw from 'The Mexican Monster'.
"He did great. Awesome job man. I think he definitely showed that he is that guy in the division … He's so smart."
Lopez told FightHub TV that he thinks Benavidez would beat Canelo Alvarez if they fought now. But he added a condition.
"The Canelo situation, it's a great match-up, great fight. [This version of him] beats Canelo. Not saying it'll be easy, cause Canelo is smart, he'll break his arms … If both can understand and master that then we win at the end, the fans."
Lopez thinks Benavidez would win if Canelo isn't back to being light on his feet. But he knows it wouldn't be an easy fight for either boxer.
Benavidez has a perfect record of 29 wins and no losses. He was the first fighter to stop Andrade, which got people's attention. Now, he's moved up to light-heavyweight and will fight David Morrell in January.
Canelo holds the WBC, WBO, and WBA super-middleweight titles. He's won 62 fights, lost 2, and drawn 2. In September, he beat Edgar Berlanga. His list of wins includes big names like Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, and Miguel Cotto.
Right now, Canelo doesn't seem interested in fighting Benavidez. He's even talked about Benavidez's next opponent, Morrell. But fans still want to see these two Mexican stars face off in the ring.
The boxing world waits to see if this fight will happen. If it does, it'll be one of the biggest matches in the sport.
